Big Good Horse
2 August 2007 01:34After our dramatic altercations of a few weeks ago, Zorro has mellowed right out to the point that this morning he was snuggly and friendly and made me worry he was getting ill on account of he didn't try to bite me at all.
It took a while to explain to him that the hedge was not filled with doom and demons, but having persuaded him of that seems to have given him a lot more faith in my leadership and although he still gets jumpy there now and then we can work through it without anyone needing to get flustered or kick anyone else. Even in the saddle, where I'm clearly less competent, we're starting to get somewhere- the things I've been told over my recent lessons are starting to fall into place ( So, in trot I'm supposed to keep my hands still and use my legs to steer? Why did no-one tell me? Oh, that's right, they did. ) along with the ideas and inspiration that I've been getting from Kathleen Lindley's brilliant book and watching her work a couple of weeks ago.
I'm feeling better about my riding than I ever have and Zorro is picking up on that and behaving better for me. We've got Karen French, a Silversand associate and brilliant riding instructor, coming over to do lessons with us both on Saturday morning. I'm really looking forward to it.
