It's as though someone has flicked a switch and spring is suddenly running at full tilt - the daffodils have been out for a few days but today I saw the first Brimstone of the year and everything was warm and bright and full of life.

It's been a good couple of days- Tomorrow is Lou's birthday and she has taken a long weekend so yesterday we went to Marwell and saw Giraffes and frolicking Tigers and baby leopards sleeping up poles and tiny porcupines and lairy owls and a giant anteater. Yellow mongooses (or mongeese? I'm never sure about that one) were very funny - they look a lot like small foxes and they were generally being full of the joys of spring. A bit too full of the joys of string as some parents and their young child went past. Very bless.

Today, we took ponies down to the stream again this afternoon with Lou's parents, which was a pleasant walk and the ponies liked huffling around in the stream. Then Othello discovered that if he did a digging thing with his front feet in a slightly deeper bit of the stream he could make a big splash. He spent the next minute or so splashing violently with his front feet, throwing as much water around as he possibly could. Everyone else was far enough away to stay dry, but I was at the other end of his rope so the bottom half of my legs got pretty much soaked.

I didn't have time to changed when we got home as I had to dash out to Aldershot ( where we were supporting We were supporting Ian Wills And The Willing - very Ian Dury ) so we could wait two hours for our soundcheck. When we finally did get to soundcheck it was only a few minutes before we went on stage so I had to text Lou and beg her to bring me a change of clothes for the gig. She arrived just as we went on stage.

The gig went really well- the room was full and people were getting into it- Chris had a huddle of adoring 17 year old girls stood in front of him and our new violin player played on a couple of tracks and really added something to the sound. I was bouncing around in my normal style but noticed as I got more warm that there was a distinctive odour of stinky ponds coming from somewhere, and that somewhere was in fact the lower part of my legs.

Tomorrow is Lou's birthday and we have no plans except that we are having tasty Chinese food for dinner. I'm happy cos I know she has a kick ass present this year and because I'm so lucky to be married to her.
