No update from me for a while- between the band, finishing the available Steven Erikson books and Beyond Good And Evil there has been a lot of other stuff to do.

The recording process is slow and frustrating- I have only spent a few evenings at the studio but Andy and Damon (the engineer) have spent days trying to iron out every detail of the tracks we have recorded. It is a maddening process and I don't know they endure it but the outcomes are fantastic, as I've already said - our playing sounds great (studio wizardry, I expect) Andy is singing better than he ever has and the flourishes of other instrumentation all work together to create something that sounds brilliant. Having heard how different the other tracks are I have high hopes that it will not only be a record of really good songs played well but one where every song has something memorable about it. I've already said this, but I honestly believe this could be something very special.

Tomorrow we have people coming in to tell us how much it will cost to put new windows and a new bathroom in our house. We have kind of been saving up to get these jobs done since we moved in (except that we keep spending the money on something else) but it has crossed my mind that it may be worth borrowing a few thousand quid extra on the mortgage and getting it done now. This will be more expensive because you end up paying interest on it, but the benefit is that we actually have a shower and double glazed windows. As well as letting the heat out single glazing really lets the noise through- you particularly notice it when you are in the bath and moths are tapping on the window trying to get in with a sound a bit like one might imagine the rapping of skeletal fingers on glass.

I've been playing Beyond Good And Evil a lot too. This is a game that you might do well to think of as a sci-fi Zelda, full of warmth and charm with razor-sharp gameplay and a big heart. In fact it has a lot of hearts, which you have to collect so they can behave as extra hits. Zelda influenced, as I said. It also involves hovercraft racing, collecting pearls from monsters to buy stuff at a garage run by rasta rhinos, winning a game a little bit akin to pool that is played against a shark and gaining money for photographing wildlife. It is beautiful to look at and it behaves a lot like distilled fun- if you've ever enjoyed this type of game you will love it. Also it's a few years old so it's very much on budget- worth looking out for if you own a PC or a console.

In other news, anyone who was wondering about Ben P should check replies to my last post and anyone who was wondering whether XSLT can really be as powerful as people claim the answer is that it is, and more. It is puissant indeed.
