Riding again
11 August 2010 23:54Since we got back from France I have been riding Zorro again. I sat on him a few times before, but now I'm closer to normal I can actually get back to doing some proper work and and with all the inspiration I got from watching Martin, and the fancy new bosal and horsehair mecate I got from shopping with Martin, I've been quite fired up to get some good things going.
Turns out we haven't lost too much in our couple of months off- Zorro has retained most of the forward that Steve worked so hard for us to get and he's accurate and going really beautifully in the bosal. I don't know if it's the gear or the inspiration but he really hasn't put a foot wrong.
Today we went out for our first solo trail ride and he was really great. We had one moment where a mighty panther was hiding in the hedgerow and Zorro had to spend a while growing an extra two hands and snorting at it ( in case I thought we were in no immediate danger ) before we got close enough to flush the beast out and he recognised that it was our yard cat but that's quite understandable. It's not as though Snoopy ( the cat ) lives on the yard and is often to be seen around the borders of his field after all.
Overall I'm really happy to be riding and enjoying having a nice horse to sit on. Even
sleepsy_mouse admitted that she enjoyed riding him yesterday, which given the history between them was not something I ever expected to hear.
