Any of you who work with or around computers are probably aware of the Q&A genius of Stack Overflow and the associated sites for for Sysadmins and regular users. They embody a different kind of knowledge sharing site where users ask questions and other users answer them and nothing else happens. They do a brilliant job.

So now the creators of that site ( including two of the most important programming bloggers, Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky ) have set up a mechanism by which new sites can be created using the same underlying software mechanism. They have a rather smooth process by which users propose sites and then other users support the proposals, suggest example questions to illustrate what would and wouldn't fit within the remit of the site and then commit to taking part in the beta and building up the initial momentum on the site.

Obviously, people who don't pay attention to the Stack Exchange sites might not be aware of this, so I thought I'd mention that there are proposals out there for an equestrian Q&A site and one for RPG players/GMs/Creators - which covers quite a few people on my friends list who might not otherwise be aware of them. If it looks like your sort of thing why not get involved and pay the links forward. I find the original Stack Exchange sites, especially StackOverflow a real help and I think there is plenty of room for others based on these principles.
