Last night we went out for a family trip to see the Lion King musical. It was absolutely awesome- every time I thought "how on earth can they do that bit from the film?" the answer I got was cleverer and more spectacular than I expected. The quality of the puppetry and dancing and the sheer number of different setpieces completely confound your expectations and performances were mostly spot on. Whoever watched Jeremy Irons' performance in the film and thought "the one problem there is that he's not camp enough" was a genius. Also they had a device that was basically a wheelbarrow of rotating gazelles and later it came back as a wheelbarrow of rotating gazelle skeletons (gazelletons?) - you simply cannot argue with technology like that. Well worth seeing if you know the movie well...
