I keep coming out with phrases like "only six weeks left in this decade!" For some reason it rarely cheers people up.
Yesterday we had really stormy weather- gales, torrential rain, the whole lot. Not too many trees down, considering, but it was exceptionally blustery. So much so that when we went to bring the ponies in, Donk appeared to have been picked up by the wind, blown clear over Zorro's section of the field and into the end area which is currently being rested. The wind hadn't seemed strong enough to pick up a 16.2 warmblood even with a camp rainsheet.
This morning he was very excited to go out and sure enough the moment the halter was off, he cantered down the hill, cantered up the hill and then did this:

Why yes, he was once a grade B showjumper...
Most of the rest of the morning I dedicated to the fine art of going out for a ride on my pony while the weather stayed pleasant. It was bright and sunny and generally kind of alright.
We're on a different common from usual for most of this, so there's a bit of slightly different scenery and lots of autumn colour. The slightly-hard to recognise black thing about half way along is a crow having a bath in the puddle in front of us. I felt a bit bad about disturbing him, but he didn't seem to mind- about twenty seconds later we had a bit of a spook ( you may even be able to spot that if you watch closely ) which I think was caused by the crow coming back to have a bath in the puddle behind us and bringing a friend. Zorro's mistrust at blackbirds appears to have been extended for the day to birds that are black.
In spite of our anxious moment a couple of weeks ago, however, he really didn't mind a greyhound coming charging up to us, circling us and then standing looking at us wondering what on earth he was supposed to do at this point. In fairness it was a pretty friendly greyhound but I was very glad that after being anxious about a dog previously that hadn't turned into a thing.
Also at one point we stop so Zorro can show me the kind of place he'd like to live.
This common is right behind my parents' house ( in fact we dropped by there on the way past for an apple) so these are the trails I grew up mountain biking along and I just love being there on my horse.

Date: 16 Nov 2009 01:28 (UTC)Nice scenery...all the trees here are leaf-less already and everything has gone November grey and depressing. Funny, that whole decade ending thing hadn't really occurred to me yet.

Date: 16 Nov 2009 04:28 (UTC)I'm wondering though ... how are you filming? I'd guess you've got a camera capable of doing video shorts, but wouldn't you want to have both hands free in case something dire happens?

Date: 16 Nov 2009 08:20 (UTC)The saddle is so squeaky. If I'm listening for birds or things scuffling around in the bushes it can be really hard to hear anything over it. I love it though, it's a really nice piece of kit.
