Fifteen years ago I was about to put my very happy sixth-form years behind me and leave for university in Swansea. I was excited to be going somewhere new but sad to be leaving a lot of friends behind. At that time I was hard-pressed to get through a day without listening to August and Everything After at least a couple of times, which continued to be my favourite album for many years. After years where I knew it so well I didn't think I would ever need to hear it again I've had it back on my MP3 player lately and with both familiarity and distance it really does still sound great.
Ten years ago I had just finished the taught year of my MSc and although I was totally broke I was also lined up to start my first proper full time job with the City And County Of Swansea, which meant my immediate financial crisis had an end in sight and I would be able to stay in the house I was very happy to be living in, sharing with my awesome larp buddies and having a lot of good times. I don't think I realised then how happy I was, but from here that looks a lot like one of the best years. I miss the social aspects of sharing a house- I'm very sociable but also lazy so being able to hang out with friends without needing to go further than the kitchen or the living room is an awesome arrangement for me.
Five years ago it was our wedding day. We had a bouncy castle and lots of brilliant friends around and it was a great day, although with so many people to see there was no way we could talk to everyone we wanted to in one afternoon. Marrying
sleepsy_mouse was an exceedingly fine plan and the love and security of life with her has given me a foundation for everything else I've been able to do since. A lot has happened in those five years and I think we've both changed a lot but we still belong to each other as much as we ever did. Today is all about that.

I think that sometimes about sharing a house and missing the people, particularly curry-Tuesday - not enough curry-buddies in this house!
