Hard lessons
22 September 2008 23:32Back from the clinic. It was amazing- these courses just get better and better. The only downside was that I got myself in the wrong place on Saturday and managed to get myself kicked. There are a lot of arguments in favour of barefoot horses, but in this case the one that really works for me is that I think had Zorro been shod my leg would have been broken. As it is I dropped like a stone, my right thigh was very rapidly double the size of my left one and we had to spend a few dull hours in Tunbridge Wells A&E.
I didn't allow it to stop me doing the rest of the clinic, but it feels like someone has stuck a plank under the skin of my leg and walking is hard work. Fortunately, it doesn't get in the way of riding but I had to change how I do groundwork- very much a change for the better in this case, but a hell of a way to make that transformation.
We have had to leave the horses where they were because I couldn't safely drive the lorry home- we'll go and collect them next weekend.
In spite of which I'm very happy with the things we got. Both Zorro and Small were absolutely stunning.
