There were a lot of storms last night and today was a bit blustery, which seems to have put Zorro in a bit of a jumpy mood. I spent some time on the ground with him just getting him from "must fling myself about and be objectionable" to something closer to his more mellow self, a lot more than it would usually take, and he kept having morale failures because the guy who shoots bunnies on the yard was off shooting bunnies and Zorro found the sound of them to be disagreeable.

I did ride eventually, though, and it was pretty good as well- we managed to get quite a bit of work with him soft on the bit and our forward-backwards-forwards transitions are going quite well. I can even get shoulder in consistently, if only on the left rein. All in all I was pretty happy with things so I went and joined [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse and Small and we went back to the field.

About half way to our fields is a low bank and hedgerow and one of the other owners from the yard was poo picking in their field the other side of it. Zorro was busy arguing with me about whether or not he was allowed to stop and graze by the path so he only noticed them as we came through the gate in the fence and had a massive spook, crashing his shoulder into me and dashing past until he hit the end of the rope and stopped.

It was fine- no-one was injured, although a bony part of his shoulder had collided with my hip, and Small ( and Gem, the pony in the neighbouring field ) just looked at him funny so we went on and put them back out.

It was only when I got home that I realised that in between his shoulder and my hip was the pocket with my camera in it, which was why the display on the back just shows psychedelic fractured LCD patterns now.

Damnit, I really liked that camera. It was small and good enough for what I needed and it had a good few years left in it. It had only taken 12600 pictures or so. I don't want to have to replace it but I'm willing to bet that will work out cheaper than fixing it.

EDIT: Having spoken to some helpful Canon repair specialists it looks like it may be fixable. Not cheap, but much cheaper than the alternatives...
