After constantly cold, wintery weather for the last few weeks everything seems to have grabbed the opportunity to leap into spring the moment things turn warm. Leaves have appeared on trees and bushes in a matter of days. I saw my first butterfly yesterday morning, by the end of the afternoon I had seen five different species. It's very unusual, but then I guess most years it would have been spring for some time now. The last consistently fine weather we had was last April, which I think means that even though it looks to brighten up later in the week we can refer to April 2007 - April 2008 as The Year Of Constant Rain.

Of course, people see the terrible weather of the last 12 months and say things like "Global Warming? Global encoldenating more like!" That's why I prefer the term "Climate Change" - I doubt that the change will manifest itself as everywhere getting hotter, it's more likely that it will behave like swirling water in a water container with the climate at any given location becoming increasingly unstable and unpredictable. Maybe it will settle to some different equilibrium at some point, but quite possibly not in our lifetimes.

Still, nothing we can do about it eh? So lets enjoy the fact it's finally spring in Merrie Olde Englande!

Here in Indiana, this is the first year we've had a nice spring in about the last five. We got to experience the gradual warm-up and the flowering trees. The last several years, things have flowered a bit and then the frosts came back and killed everything. It was so nice to see all the color these last few weeks...even if my allergies weren't so crazy about it all.

im inclined to believe that climate change is a natural process that we have just unwillingly sped up a bit. the evidence suggests that, but.. spose it doesnt matter really, seems we cant change things now! il just start island hopping to better climates as it changes!

It's a deeply complex process however it works- there is evidence to suggest that the reduction in particulate pollution from smoke spewing factories going back as far as the industrial revolution has meant less thermal energy reflecting out of the atmosphere and so produced some warming- sometimes reducing pollution can have an unexpected effect. Much like swirling water around a bath it's very hard to tell where the rubber duck will end up and the more rubber ducks you put in the more difficult it gets.

Sadly, not much. I've just been too busy with so many other things. However, I think this weekend I'll get a chance to pull it out. :)
