Autumn begins

I know it doesn't tie in with how the world works if you ask people who know about these things but in my mind seasons happen in three month bursts - Spring is March to May, Summer is June to August, Autumn is September to November and Winter fills the remaining space. Consequently, in my world, today is the start of Autumn following on from a dramatic Summer finale of lightning and rain.

Tomorrow Steve and Mandy, two friends of mine from 6th form days (and before, in Steve's case) get married. Not before time- they have been going out for about 12 years now- and it should be a really good day among old friends who I see far too seldom. The problem with living where I do and everyone else living where everyone else does is that I see most of my friends far too infrequently especially when there are horses that need tending daily and every weekend is half dedicated to the band, in addition to all the gigs we do. There are a lot of people I miss a lot of the time and I often miss the skanky old city by the sea as well. I know the past is irrecoverable and that the world has changed since we were young and easy under the apple boughs (and for me some of those changes have been amazing) but it is on my mind often and if I am ever less busy I owe a lot of friends a lot of visits.

Being me, I assumed that they were going to get married on Saturday because that's what people do, so I had to do a last minute blag of Friday afternoon off when I realised that they weren't which does result in a very short week, all told.

Actually summer streches from April to mid October, then you have the brief seasons of Halloween, Christmas and Daffodils Everywhere, before more summer.

Just another reason I miss living in the west...
