Whammy

Had a call from the lorry repair guys today. The master brake cylinder needs replacing, which would be costly but feasible if the parts were not obsolete. As it is, they reckon we'll be able to get back a small fraction of the cost of the work they have already done on it by scrapping the lorry.

If [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse was able to borrow some cash she might be able to sort something out, I owe too much off this one to be able to do much for it...

have you looked at getting a 2nd hand one from a scrapyard?

my lorry mechanic tried the same trick with me saying such and such a part was obsolete and i would have to pay megabucks to have a new part made and they were on ebay for a fiver!!!!

That is interesting. Maybe worth checking in with the mechanics anyways.

Oh :o(

Is it elligible for the scrappage scheme or is it too big?

I second the idea of asking at breakers' yards. My dad recently bought a part for his horse lorry in fact for £15 when he'd been told there would only be one or two in the country and it would cost a million pounds.

Failing that, oh crap!

Seems like we can get the part from a breakers' place so although it's expensive we can probably get the lorry fixed and then sell it with a fresh plate and probably get more money for it than we would for scrap even with the extra cost, so that is probably what we'll do...
